Equestrian Artist Barbara Widmann

Inspiration to me is mixing art with a love of horses.

Horse paintings that flow with color and life; inspire energy, power, illustrate beauty, and the elegance of horses are my main focus when I create a painting. I strive to reveal the special personality and spirit of each individual horse through art. Growing up around horses I developed a strong sense of the anatomy, personality and most of all, spirit of a horse. Although I no longer own horses, I strive to capture those components in my art, and bring a painting to life. In a manner of speaking, my paintings have become my horses.

My favorite medium is watercolor paint because I like the wonderful translucent effects the paint dropped on paper can create. I was intrigued by the nature of the effects that watercolor paints make. I also enjoy creating with acrylic paint, oil paint, pastels, charcoal, pen and ink, graphite pencil and color pencil. I have a graphic art and illustration degree and I utilize skills learned to develop more interesting forms of composition, using light, values and color theory as tools to create art that can stir emotion.
