Under The Cottonwood by Marti Adrian 16" x 20" acrylic Sold (then) "It was done at the time I was practicing my trees. But then I never could resist putting a horse or two into a landscape painting." |
A Captive Audience by Marti Adrian 16" x 20" acrylic Available - Inquire (now) This was done recently when I was in the market for a Percheron cross for my
sport horse breeding program. This percheron breeder had such friendly
horses, that I couldn't resist it when they all crowded up to the fence with
curiosity. I wanted to give a sense of their awe-inspiring size, and my
friend made a comment about them in relation to a mouse, so I decided to
give the mouse a small role in this painting. |

No Regrets & Consequences by Mindy Colton 18" x 9" x 7" bronze/granite base Available - Inquire (then) Quote by Florida Arts Reviewer Laura Stewart, from Two Person Exhibit at Atlantic Center for the Arts at Harris House, New Smyrna Beach, FL.."You Can Lead a Horse to Water" - "Colton's graceful visual pun...the two colts in "No Regrets & Consequences" - legs elongated to enhance their awkward grace and to heighten the emotional aspects of their game as they graze on a base made of polished bright green stone to suggest a grassy field. One, unseen by the other sneaks up and extends his neck to the others tail ready to nip....a sly expressionist, using a familiar face to tap into personal human emotion and spark a response in the viewer." |
Wind Dancer Pegasus by Mindy Colton 10' x 10' x 12' aluminum Available - Inquire (now) Wind Dancer is a life size contemporary sculpture of the mythic Pegasus. On its pedestal it moves and sways in the wind. The wings also move, making the sculpture softly kinetic. Trotting Bay by Sheri Cook 12" x 15" colored pencil NFS (then) One of my first attempts at color. My artistic background being mainly graphite pencils and pen-and-ink, this piece challenged me. I liked learning the patience to apply layer after layer of color. The results made me quite happy at the time. Seems so many years ago... |
Mutual Affection by Sheri Cook 12" x 16" oil on canvas Available - Inquire (now) Within the past two years or so I overcame my fear of experimenting, using, and working in oils. I invested in some water soluble oils. I now enjoy them very much. They apply and cover easily and quickly and no harsh smells. They dry quickly to the delight of this impatient creative soul. I love them! This particular subject is from a moment I caught with my camera at the Andalusian Nationals held in Fort Worth, Texas. This handler with his mare was awaiting the judge's call. I loved the private interaction between the two and just had to paint it. Thus this work I call "Mutual Affection". |

The Untouchables by Debbie Flood 13" x 18" watercolor NFS (then) "I painted this in 1995, after the birth of my first child. Feeling I needed a little escape, I painted the wild horses running free. I didn't work from photographs back then and drew out this image from my head and imagination." |
Puddle in the road by Debbie Flood 14" x 9" watercolor Available - Inquire (now) "I now work from my own photos and have studied compositiion and color harmony. The EAG has helped me grow as an artist and to push myself harder to get anatomy and composition right. I have also gained the confidence to include humans and more tack and harness in my paintings." |

Team Players by Gloria Gardner 30" x 36" oil on canvas Available - Inquire (now) "This was from an EAG member. I have been fascinated since I was a little girl by Belgians - I think they are just beautiful. Kind of the Blondes of Big Beautiful Women but in the horse world!" |

Babson Head Study by Patricia Getha 8" x 10" graphite Available - Inquire (then) "This graphite was done somewhere around 1986. He is a Babson Arabian stallion who was being leased at a friend's farm. I photographed him while visiting TEE GEE FARM in Marengo, Illinois, where I had worked 30+ years ago. I don't even know his name!" |

After a painting by A.J Munnings by Catherine Gillespie 28" x 24" acrylic (then) "I have always heard the best way to learn is by copying the masters, so this is why I chose this piece by Sir Alfred J. Munnings to copy. I haven't been able to find the title of this racehorse being mounted by his jockey. I learned a bit about Munnings from a horse breeder I knew during the 1980's. She was English, and a collector of Munnings prints, and she had a hunter (what they used to call sport horses) called "Munnings" who won the Governor General's cup at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair here in Toronto one year. Later, after years as a horse photographer, when I became interested in painting (horses, of course!), I really fell in love with A.J. Munnings. I have lots of other favorite equine artists now, but A.J. was my first!
I did this when I lived in Kelowna, British Columbia. I remember agonizing over it and redoing many parts of it. I loved the colours and the stance of the horse. Maybe I will do another one." |
The Team by Catherine Gillespie 30" x 36" oil on canvas Available - Inquire (now) "I just finished this oil. I am still experimenting with water soluble oils. I really wanted to do something big and dramatic, bigger than what I have done before. I wanted it to be flooded with warm light, and for the viewer to feel what it would be like to be there on a warm spring morning in the Kentucky hills. I loved the position of each of the four Belgians.
I like to use my own photographs as much as possible but the photograph that was the reference for this piece is not my own. I bought the photo from an Indiana horseman who does beautiful photos of draft horses. He gave me permission to use this as a reference for an artwork that would be for sale, as long as I gave him credit. He has a website called www.drafthorsephotos.com." |
