THE ARTIST'S HORSE AS MUSE

Cheryl Lynn Smith-Bell

I'm a Headliner; Liner for short; was my horse (first horse on the right). He was a throw away because he'd foundered in the fall of his 2 year old year. I had broken him as a yearling and raced him and was a partner in his ownership. No one wanted him after he foundered, so they gave him to me to save or get rid of. I saved him with a great horse shoer's help.

From the first summer as a 3 yr. old, he was an excellent mount in the mountains and very willing to go any place I asked. I didn't ask stupid things of him, though. Over the years we went all over the White Mountain Wilderness, and he was a great friend, too.

He was 22 when I finally had to put him down from a tumor in his throat, but he was still sound.
