This is a painting of my gray Thoroughbred mare, "Cool Brittany". Before I got her she was the Grand Champion Thoroughbred mare at the 1999 Royal Winter Fair, and in 1999 and 2000, she had 2 foals that had racing careers at Toronto’s Woodbine Race Track. I have owned her for 7 years, and we have been through a lot together.
I have owned many horses along the way, but as I get older, I appreciate more and more, what horses bring into my life. This one is very special. I have done many pastels of her as she is so striking: a snow white coat, expressive eyes, fabulous conformation, and an attitude that is fun to capture on paper! For “Fenced In”, I had just turned her out into the field, and before she had her carrot, she had to take a look to see where her pasture mates were. Soon after, she was galloping down the hill to join them.
