Ocean Wind by Heather Mitchell 12" x 16" acrylic (then) "This was what I call a 'play painting' - no reference photo and only the memory of some lovely sunsets I witnessed in the Gulf of Mexico years ago. It is somewhat impressionistic in style and amateurish in technique, but I was pleased with it at the time." |
Autumn Light - Lippitt Colt by Heather Mitchell 12" x 16" acrylic Available - Inquire (now) "Another 'play painting' - no reference photo. I had, however, seen this spectacular colot in a DVD and painted him from memory. He exemplified all that a Lippitte colt should and is my Morgan ideal. I didn't get caught up in details - as I usually do - just painted the memory and splashed him with autumn light." |

The Triad by Rebecca Moore 18" x 12" charcoal NFS (then) "This was one of my first equine pieces in charcoal. I had no reference photos of my own, so I had to use photos from a magazine. As you can see, I didn't do a very good job of making them look like they go together!" |
CWP Chances Are by Rebecca Moore 18" x 24" charcoal Available - Inquire (now) "I drew this from a photo I took at a breeder's open house. This stallion was gracious enough (or vain enough!) to take long pauses so I got a great shot which made drawing him easy. This drawing received second place at the Western States Horse Expo this summer." |

Foal and Butterfly I by Delia Pacheco 16" x 20" colored pencil NFS (then) "In 1986 I lived in Missouri and bred Arabian Horses, this foal in the drawing Chushan, was my first foal by my stallion out of my prized *Chutor++ daughter. This foal was born unexpectedly one morning, he was not suppose to come for another 4 days...I went to the barn to feed and there he stood looking at me as I pitched a flack of hay. He had such long legs he looked like a freak, when he matured he was almost 16 hands tall, big for an Arabian.
One day in the pasture I saw him backing up franticly, there he was with a Butterfly attached to his nose. He did not know how to get it off , and the look on his face was as in this drawing. You can see the reflection of the butterfly in his eyes. I still have his arthritic 27 year old mother, but Chushan's fate was really short lived, maybe for about 8 years." |
Foal and Butterfly II (gee wish I could fly) by Delia Pacheco 16" x 20" acrylic Available - Inquire (now) "I have a friend in Colorado that breeds the most beautiful Quarter Horses I have ever seen, they have beautiful conformation, muscling and particularly great heads. She sent this photo of her foal resting his chin on a fence, when I saw it I imagined a Butterfly sitting there and the foal thinking "gee wish I could fly"
A particular note on this painting, a few years back this painting was displayed for a month at a Country Club, there it disappeared but I found it two years later." |
