Equestrian Artist Geri Hives
Geri is mainly a self-taught artist who, after trying many mediums, discovered pastels. Pastels seem to lend themselves to painting animals, making people want to reach out and pet them.
Geri has had many private & corporate commissions. The 2003 Calgary Stampede Art Auction. 2002 Pacific & Prairie Horse Journal Beautiful Baby Photo Contest, 1st Place Foal Category, 2nd prize Grande Prairie Proctor & Gamble Christmas Card Contest. People's Choice Award at the Prairie Art Gallery juried members show. Honorable mention Beauty of the Peace contest. Along with numerous solo & group shows.
Living in Northern Alberta with our long sunny summer days, there are always horse activities somewhere, and winter is a perfect time to paint all these times. Also being involved with the local horse club and following my daughter to different Horse Trials gives me lots of ideas for my paintings and photography.
