Equestrian Artist Gloria Gardner
I have loved horses ever since I can remember and even found old school report cards that said I had a problem in school because all I wanted to do was discuss horses. They called it "lop-sided interest"!
My first art class was at age seven. I only went there to learn how to draw a horse. However, I went with my Dad, who was doing watercolors of covered bridges. I didn't stay because I was too intimidated.
I didn't paint again until my 40's and this time I learned about color and composition. My subject matter was mostly landscapes, especially mountains. I also did some animals. I didn't paint horses for many years, but when I did, they flowed easily.
My favorite medium is watercolor. It does some wonderful things when you let it. I also work in acrylics and mixed media.
My classes have been with local colleges, art institutes, workshops and classes with various teachers. I took studio classes with Julie Gilbert Pollard, an Arizona artist for ten years.
We live on 2 1/2 acres in New River, Arizona, that we call Aquarius Ranch since hubby and I are both Aquarians as was my first horse. We have two horses, a dog, cat, five chickens, one rooster, and two African Spur Tortoises. I grew up in Phoenix, riding horses where many of the fine resorts now stand. Today, we just head out our front gate into the desert. I hope it stays that way for awhile.
I happily accept commissions and also have greeting cards available.
