"It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one
should listen to, the feeling for the things themselves, for reality, is
more important than the feeling for pictures." - Vincent Van Gogh
It appears that the two and three-dimensional artists in this issue are able
to communicate the language of nature; a reality that people yearn for even
more today in this age of computers, cell phones and electronic gadgets.
Viewing the gorgeous images in this issues landscape article, it occurred to
me that it is reassuring that people connect to this art, and value the
symbolism it so beautifully portrays. Wide open spaces, freedom and a love
of the simpler life are sentiments stemming from traditional values worth
believing in.
Edgar Degas, one of my favorite artists, put it quite simply. "Art is
not what you see, but what you make others see." What a fabulous
opportunity, and if taken to heart, responsibility it is to be an artist.
Those who feel that representational art is passé are ignoring a basic
notion. We need to continually validate our own beliefs in traditional,
God-fearing values in an ongoing way. And the demand for artwork of artists
like Yvonne Kitchen and Tim Cox will outlast and outlive those who created
it.
"An artist chooses his subjects: that is the way he praises." -
Friedrich Nietzsche.
Just look at what the artists in this issue are praising - Enjoy!
