The rider for Arabesque, the Arabian Dressage Mare was worked both with formal shadbelly and informal habit as Arabians are shown in formal attire at much lower levels than they would be in open competition.

This relatively early stage of Arabesque in the clay shows the rider placed temporarily on the back over a piece of plastic for easy liftoff. In keeping with the formal attire, the mare is wearing a full bridle.

This very early shot shows the aluminum mesh cut and folded for the shadbelly (tails). Only a very thin layer of clay is necessary over the aluminum mesh to hold shape. The ears and brim of the hat were worked the same way.
