About the Artist

Not only am I casting sterling silver jewelry, but I have extended my polymer clay creations to include reasonably priced FUN JEWELRY. So far this line of one-of-a-kind jewelry is limited to earrings, but I intend to extend it to pendants as well. The earrings are priced at $5/pair and are displayed on the little corral I used for the gallery Holiday Celebration. Contact me for pricing of special order earrings or pendants.

There are now several horses, mules, and a burro in my new line of sterling silver jewelry. Carving wax to create the tiny sculptures that are cast using the same lost wax process that is used on a much larger scale to create the larger bronzes has been an exciting learning curve. I am used to working in clay that is an additive as well as subtractive process, and the wax is totally subtractive as well as working with magnification because of the tiny size. Any of the pieces shown with turquoise are also available with other stones or plain. Check back to see what new horse, dog, and exotic animals I am now carving to be cast in silver.

I couldn't resist taking pictures of both of the Gray Percherons together. Mademoiselle is a portrait of a modern three year old hitch type filly while Monsieur represents the mature breeding stallion I met in the fifties when I was a teenager. 2009 prices: Mademoiselle $2,100, Monsieur $2.200.

The three year old Percheron filly that first was cast in black as "Noir" is now available in a beautiful gray coat as "Gris". The Edition size remains at 20, and the dimensions at 13" x 12" x 6" on a walnut base. Unfortunately, the cost of casting has risen so precipitously that I have had to raise her 2009 price to $2,100.

My latest work in progress is this full of himself Arabian colt. He will be an edition of 20, and his dimensions in the clay are 16.25" x 14" x 5". His Pre-Casting Price is $2,500.

The second of my series of Whitetail bucks is ready to ship to the foundry. He represents a young buck who is full of himself as he struts his stuff. Like "Flying High", he springs from memories of raising Whitetail deer for over ten years. In the clay he measures 12.5" x 13" x 4", and his Pre-Casting Price is $2,000.

The Jumping Whitetail sculpture shown earlier in the clay has received his name "Flying High" and been cast in a traditional patina. Although Whitetail purests will recognize that he is a Florida Whitetail with finer antlers and bone structure than would be found in a Mid-western Whitetail (and in fact he is modelled after the FL Whitetail we raised for over ten years), he represents the grace and elegance of all of his kind. He is the first of an edition of 20, 12.5" x 16" x 11.5", and priced at $2,250.

The casting of Gypsy Wizard, the delightful yearling Gypsy Vanner I met at Western States Horse Expo, arrived in time to be shown at the Draft Horse Classic.

JUMPING WHITETAIL is the first in a series of Whitetailed Deer that will also include a trotting buck and one lying down. In progress the JUMPING WHITETAIL is 12 1/2" x 16" x 9". I envision an edition size of 20 for each and hope, even in the face of rapidly rising foundry costs, to price them for under $3,000. Therefore I am offering a pre-casting price for JUMPING WHITETAIL of $2,500. My cat Smokey had to check out the set up when I took the first photographs with the tree under the deer.

LILLY is back from the foundry and mounted on a beautiful curly maple base. Her finished size is 12 1/2" x 19" x 8". The No. 1/20 casting, complete with memorial plate, is now at home with the owners of this beautiful little Miniature Horse mare.

The Spring 2008 issue of "Horses in Art Magazine" has a wonderful article "Smitten with the Big Boys" featuring my fascination with the Percheron horse as illustrated by my sculptures featuring the breed.

My local woodworker has come up with a new style of walnut bookends for my donkey, draft horse, and mule busts. A donkey/mule pair of bookends will be in the Mule Magazine Booth at Bishop.

LILLY is a portrait of my ideal Miniature Horse mare. In the clay she stands 13 1/2" x 15". She is at the foundry to cast the first two of twenty castings (and Artist's Proof). These first two should be ready in January and future castings will take 8-10 weeks to complete. The pre-casting price is $3,000+base and shipping.

To me GYPSY WIZARD exemplifies the best of the Gypsy Vanner breed which is why I asked his owners for permission to use him as the model for my first Gypsy Vanner sculpture. Portrayed as a 10 1/2" x 12" clay, the bronze will be in full color, even down to his blue eyes, and be available by March mounted on either a walnut or marble base at a pre-casting price of $2,500.

In addition to continuing to create more 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" Bas Relief tiles, I have begun creating smaller reliefs for 4" x 4" tiles as well as diamond and rectangular tiles. These smaller tiles priced at $20 each as compared to $25 for the larger tiles have proven to be very popular.

Several new additions are now available to my series of minature sculptures, each of which I name "Little....." The newest additions are LITTLE ARABIAN STALLION, 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" x 1" at $140, LITTLE BABY BURRO (aka Jellybean), 2 1/2" x 3" x 1" at $120, and LITTLE ITCHY COLT, 2 5/8" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" at $120.

HOBBLED was the 1st Place Sculpture at 49ers Death Valley Days Art Show.
This was the first show for the bronze portrait of Brad Cameron and his beautiful young gray mule Concho. HOBBLED is available free standing, 12 1/2" x 14 1/2" x 4" at $5,750 or mounted on a beautiful curly maple base, 14 1/2" x 14 1/2" x 5" at $5,950.

The bronze sculpture of HOBBLED is complete and both of the first two castings have been brought home from the foundry. one of which will go to Brad Cameron while the second will first appear in the "Western Mule Magazine" booth at Bishop Mule Days. I returned to Joseph am very happy with the patina to match Concho's gray coloring. They are mounted on beautiful curly maple bases, they will also be available without a base. They are 15 1/2" x 15' x 9" on the base and 13 1/2" x 15" x 6" without the base. The price for each is $5,750 or $5,950 with the base.

I am on a roll with the mules. This one is "John Mule", a bay mule in the same size range as the Molly Mule in "Little Misses". His dimensions are 9 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 6", an edition of 20, and priced at $1,700.

Two new items are now available, a Molly Mule Bust and a bridled Draft Mule Bust. They can be mounted on plaques as trophies or as bookends. Each measures approximately 4" x 4" and is an edition of 100. The price of each Molly Mule Bust is $150, and the Draft Mule Bust is $175.

DECEMBER 2006 UPDATE! The Gray Percheron Stallion titled "Monsieur Percheron Gris" was created as the partner for "Mademoiselle Percheron Noir". Like the filly this sculpture will be available in either the gray patina or as the black "Monsieur Percheron Noir". He stands 13.75" x 14" x 6.5" on a 2" walnut base. He was juried into the Women Artists of the West Chicago Show where he spent the month of November. His price is $2,000. src='http://www.equineartguild.com/~ykitchen/news/images/upimages/Monsieur_Percheron_Noir_RR.jpg' />

DECEMBER 2006 UPDATE! Given the French origins of the breed, I couldn't resist naming my Percheron pair with French names. The black Percheron filly "Mademoiselle Percheron Noir" is back from the foundry. She is 13" x 12.5" x 6" on a walnut base that matches that of her mate. She will also be available with a grey patina as "Mademoiselle Percheron Gris". She is priced at $1,900 with either patina.

APRIL 2007 UPDATE! A new picture that has been sent to the Montana foundry for a bid is posted after the color pictures. While the single male Okapi is evolving into an Okapi family, I have created a one of a kind, small Okapi ornament as a commission. I am posting pictures of the family and a couple of images of Erin's Okapi, the small ornament commission.

YEAR END UPDATE: My first mule sculpture is now available both with two little girls as "Little Misses and Miss Molly Mule" and alone as the elderly "Miss Molly Mule". Both bronzes were first available in the Western Mule Magazine Booth at Bishop Mule Days in May, where the No. 1 casting of "Little Misses" sold to Meredith Hodges. The dimensions are 9" x 11" x 8" for either version, and each version will be cast as an edition of 20. The Price for "Little Misses and Miss Molly Mule" is $3,250 and for "Miss Molly Mule" is $2,400.

It's been a while since I did a wildlife sculpture. This is the newest, a small 5 1/2" x 7" x 5 1/4" Giraffe Mama with her youngster. The introductory price is $750.

One of my favorite animals is the beautiful Okapi, the only living relative of the giraffe. For centuries this shy, deep forest dweller was known only to the Pigmy of West Africa who hunted them. Still exceedingly rare, a few are seen in American Zoos and are the models for my sculpture and my colored pencil drawings.
